Welcome to the Ministry of Buildings and Grounds
The Buildings and Grounds Ministry at Saint James' Episcopal Church honors the trust that God and the congregation have placed with us by maintaining the buildings in good repair and keeping the grounds aesthetically pleasing. We hope to provide our parish with a safe and beautiful place to worship and our downtown community with lovely garden where they might rest and contemplate the nearness of God.

What We Do: We are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all St. James’ properties. The buildings include the main property on West Street: the Church, Chapel, Luckenbill Hall, Auditorium, Kitchens, Food Pantry, and the old Rectory on Terrace Place, as well as the current Rectory building on Cannondale Drive. The committee also maintains the outdoor grounds, including the surrounding garden areas, parking lots and Food Pantry Garden.

In an effort to minimize costs, the B&G committee utilizes internal resources and the wealth of talent within the St. James’ community to complete many of the jobs that are within our capabilities. These include painting, fixing windows, walls and doors, planting, weeding and mulching, cleaning, and minor plumbing. For work that is outside our expertise, we actively seek quotes from licensed electricians, plumbers and contractors.

What YOU can do:
We are always looking for extra hands to help with our ongoing mission. Any time and skills you can give will be greatly appreciated. There are several projects that require ongoing attention. If you would like to volunteer, please approach one of committee members or call the church office.

Work Shirt Saturdays:
We organize “Work Shirt Saturdays” at least once every quarter. The goal is to collect volunteers to donate 2-4 hours of their time on a given Saturday to tackle seasonal projects. The days usually attract 20+ volunteers, in addition to the committee members. Work Shirt Saturdays are an easy and essential way to give back to the St. James’ community. Please look for upcoming Work Shirt Saturdays in the Sunday bulletin, weekly e-Pistle emails, and the quarterly Newsletter.
Please join us! Buildings and Grounds meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in Luckenbill Hall which can be accessed of the parking lot on Terrace Place.. We review our to-do lists, set priorities, plan events like Work Shirt Saturday, investigate costs, etc. We meet with electricians, plumbers and contractors when necessary work is beyond our expertise. Please join us and share your ideas, or simply keep us company.

Many hands make light work!
