We honor the trust that God and the congregation has placed in us by maintaining the buildings in good repair and keeping the grounds aesthetically pleasing. We hope to provide our parish with a safe and beautiful place to worship in our downtown community with lovely gardens where they might rest and contemplate the nearness of God.
The Buildings and Grounds Ministry responsibilities include
The main property on West Street, including the Sanctuary, Chapel, Parish Hall, Auditorium, Kitchens, Food Pantry
The old Rectory on Terrace Place (currently residency of sexton)
The current Rectory building on Cannondale Drive.
The outdoor grounds at each property, including the surrounding garden areas, parking lots, and Food Pantry Garden.
In an effort to minimize costs, the B&G Ministry utilizes internal resources and the wealth of talent within the Saint James community to complete many of the jobs that are within our capabilities. These include painting, fixing windows, walls, doors, planting, weeding and mulching, cleaning, and minor plumbing. For work that is outside our expertise, we actively seek quotes from licensed electricians, plumbers, and contractors.
The Buildings and Grounds Ministry organizes ‘Work Shirt Saturdays’ at least once every quarter. The goal is for volunteers to donate 2-3 hours of their time on a given Saturday to tackle seasonal projects. The days usually attract 10-15 volunteers. Work Shirt Saturdays are an easy and essential way to give back to the St. James’ community--plus we have a lot of fun. Many hands make light work! Check the calendar for our next workshirt Saturday!
Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the Lord. Haggai 1:8
